The Roaring Fork Valley and Grand Junction make quite the team when it comes to youth rugby.

After reaching the Rugby Colorado Division II high school boys state semifinals last spring, the Grand Gents, which features a blend of players from the two areas, reached the state final in 2012.

While they didn't come away with a state title, the Gents wrapped up quite the campaign on Wednesday, finishing their season at 6-4 and as state runner-ups. PAC Rugby built a big lead at Infinity Park in Glendale, running away with a 27-7 win in the title game.

“We had five guys that were starting on the A side that were rookies,” said Robert Hurley, one of the Grand Gents' coaches. “To make it to the finals is pretty good.”

Grand Gents players hail from high schools throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and the Grand Junction area.

The Western Slope side couldn't scratch out of a sizable hole Wednesday night. PAC, which draws its players from the Denver foothills, went up 22-0 before Fruita's Chris Gershon put the Grand Gents on the board with a try. Glenwood Springs' Wiehan Pretorius converted the kick.

PAC added a late try to put the match out of reach.

Colorado Springs won the Division I final, defeating Cherry Creek, 35-8.
