After a triumphant season in 2010, the PAC Rugby Colorado team has come back to achieve even more success in the 2011 season and has its eye on winning the state championship on May 11.

The PAC team - made up of students from Platte Canyon High School, Conifer High School and Evergreen High School, and coached by Platte Canyon teacher Hugh Miller - made it to the state championships in 2010.

After a strenuous match between PAC and Boulder, which went into overtime, the game concluded in a tie; however, the competitors from Boulder scored more tries and won the state championship, leaving PAC in the runner-up position.

Miller entered the 2011 season with a loss of 12 members, who were seniors in the previous year. Though returning Evergreen players recruited a great number of new players, Miller expected the year to be "a rebuilding year," but the team has showed promising success and exceeded his expectations.

"We're back in it," Miller said.

Practices began Feb. 8, and the team was forced to practice in the Marshdale Elementary gym due to bad weather. However, the team soon began practicing outside on the field, bracing against both snow and wind to prepare for the upcoming season.

The first match of the year occurred on March 2, and PAC shut out the competition, Highlands Ranch, with a score of 62-0. On March 9, the team traveled to Mossbrucker Park, where it lost to SWARM 12 to 3.

At Warriors Pitch on March 16, the team gained some redemption in its 24-5 win over the Warriors. PAC struck again on March 23 against Ridge View, with a narrow win of 27-25.

On April 6, Littleton beat PAC 19-14, which was followed by a three-game winning streak.
