While rugby is characterized by physical, nonstop action, the strategy required to play the game at a high level often outweighs the rough and tumble reputation the sport has earned. Fifteen players from each team take the pitch trying to advance the ball by running or kicking it forward, while the other team attempts to stop this advance by tackling the ball carrier. No hard padding is allowed, but the lack of this armor causes the players to tackle with more regard for their own safety, thus catastrophic injuries are not commonplace. Following the match, both teams gather for a traditional post match BBQ and celebration of the sport. The home team is responsible for hosting this event, where players, parents, and supporters from each team share food, comraderie, and more than a few laughs, often forming friendships that endure a lifetime.
The PAC season begins in early February and runs through May. The team is open to male athletes attending High School at any of the three before mentioned Schools. PAC fields an “A-side” as well as a freshman/sophomore only side. Both sides practice at the Marshdale turf fields on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 3-4:30PM, beginning February 4th.
A Try Rugby Youth Program (coed, 5-15 year olds) begins in early June. No experience is necessary and all athletes, former players, or just those interested are welcome to come out to practice.
